There are two main characters in this story. One is Anil who is 25 years old and a kind-hearted person and another is a young boy who is 15 years old and a thief. Anil had been watching a wrestling match when he met Anil. The boy soon made Anil his friend. He lied that his name was Hari Singh. He changed his name every month to avoid the police and former employers. After some time the boy told Anil that he wanted to work for him. Finally, Anil accepted the proposal of the boy and he took him to his room over the Jumna Sweet Shop. The boy cooked the food the first night. But Anil gave it to a dog as it was tasteless. Generally, he would buy the day's supplies. In that, he would make a profit of a rupee a day. Anil knew but ignored it. He taught him cooking, writing name and sentences. Anil earned money by writing articles for a magazine. One day, he got a bundle of notes by selling a book to a publisher. He kept them under his mattress. The boy studied the situation. If he took the money he could catch the 10:30 Express to Lucknow. At night, the boy took away his money. The notes were R.s. 600 in fifties. He went to the railway station to run away. But he could not do so because of Anil's kindness. Finally, he decided to go back to Anil to learn to read and write. He came back to the room and put the money back in its place. The next morning the boy awoke late. Anil already made the tea. He offered a fifty rupee note to the boy and said now he would pay him regularly.
