Reading 


The horse is a domesticated one –toed, hoofed mammal.  The natural life span of a domesticated horse is about 25 - 30 years, 10 years down from what it was in the wild . One can tell a horse’s age from the number of teeth it has. They get all their teeth by the age of 5, after which those teeth just get longer. Horses can't breathe through their mouth. They have 10 different muscles in their ears. Horses have a nearly 360 degree all round vision. The   only place they cannot see is directly behind or right in front of them. Therefore, it is unsafe to stand behind a horse. Each of the horse’s   two eyes work independently. A horse can sleep standing up as as he is able to lock his leg muscles which prevents him from falling. As horses become more domesticated humans have developed more uses for them,  such as serving as means of transportation, source of entertainment etc.  Today horses can be found in the care of humans all over the world.

Ans:- The life spam of domesticated horse is about 25-30 years.


Q.2  How can one count a horse’s age? 

Ans:- One can count a horse's age from their number of teeth.


Q.3   Why is it not safe to stand behind a horse? 

ANS. It is not safe to stand behind a horse because he can not see directly behind him.

 *Introduction:- Man’s life is a mixture of joy and sorrow. The moments of joy come very rarely in his life. Whenever there is an occasion of happiness, man forgets every other thing and we enjoy that moment a lot.  


*Occasion:- I always celebrate my birthday with a modest pomp but this is my 14th birthday which I celebrated yesterday. This birthday was special day for me. I think it is the happiest day in my life.


 *Birthday Party:- The party started in our hall in the evening. The place was well lighted with colourful lamps, balloons, ribbons. The chair had been arranged by the servants. A large table was laid in the middle of the room.  


*Cake Cutting:- I stood before the cake in a well dress. My parents, grandparents and friends surrounded me with love and joy. I cut the cake at 9 P.M. Everybody clapped saying “Happy Birthday To You”. Every guest was given a piece of cake, sweets, namkeen, cold drink, ice-cream, etc.  


*Conclusion:- Every guest brought a gift for me. The table was loaded with glittering gifts in the hall. I was very happy and all my friends and relatives enjoy the party.

Ans:- Horace Danby was about 50 and unmarried.  He was good and honest citizen. He was respectable . But he was not completely honest. He had a successful career in lock - making.  He loved rare and expensive books. He robbed a safe every year. He planned everything before robbery but one day he was tricked in by a young and pretty lady. She was a thief like him. She posed to be the landlady. She made out a story. She asked Horace Danby to take out the jewels from the safe. Horace did so for freedom.  But finally the police arrested him for the robbery. The safe had his fingerprints.



 Q.  19  How is  Mrs.  Pumphrey  responsible  for  Tricki's  ailment?

Ans:- Mrs Pumphrey was a very rich lady. She pampered Tricki. She gave it a lot of rich food . It included ice cream, chocolates, malts,cod -lover oil and Horlicks. But she did not take it for walking. Nor did she give it physical exercise.
